About ArtWomen.org

We hope that this website will be a place for you to find visual art and feminist cultural production across and between disciplines and geographical boundaries. ArtWomen.org began with two friends talking via e-mail, a feminist curator in Texas and a feminist art historian in Washington, D.C. We decided to use the Internet to bring artwomen together on line to talk about issues of current interest. We were then organizing a roundtable for the 2000 National Women's Studies Association annual meeting, and the Internet was a convenient alternative to meetings that must be attended in person. Since that beginning we have added a lot to ArtWomen.

If you only have time for a quick visit, check the Website of the Week. The news page includes a variety of topic headings; please send your news for inclusion. The Archive contains art that has cycled out of the gallery area, as well as other previously posted matter. We invite you to volunteer to write reviews, articles and notes for publication on line. Artist Tee Corinne offered us her periodic newsletter in which she reviews new books of interest to feminists in the arts. You'll find the most recent newsletter in "About ArtWomen" in the News; back issues are in the Archive.

The site is professionally designed, but ArtWomen is still a labor of love. We--Mary Jo Aagerstoun and MaryRoss Taylor, the founders--volunteer our time. Your name won't be sold, and we have no plans to solicit advertisements or dues. Mary Jo received her Ph. D. in art history in 2004; she helps us reach an audience of teachers, students, and museum educators. MaryRoss, who formerly directed nonprofit alternative art organizations, updates the site with news and information, and curates the online gallery.

Thanks for visiting.
